Friday’s Top 10: Emma’s Season 1 Looks
By guest-contributor: Danielle from What Would Emma Pillsbury Wear?
Twenty-two episodes. Sixty-eight outfits. One fabulous character.
I’m talking about our favorite WHMS guidance counselor, Emma Pillsbury.
It didn’t take long for us to fall in love with Emma’s quirky personality as well as her incredible style. Glee’s Costume Designer, Lou Eyrich, has created a truly iconic look for Emma – prim, but not too-buttoned up, with a modern-vintage feel. With to-die-for shoes and accessories, Emma’s style has become a fashion phenomenon.
Narrowing down Emma’s myriad of looks from Season 1 to the Top Ten was no small feat. Choosing a favorite child might be easier. Each and every piece she wore (except for The Embroidered Felted Wool Cardigan Who Shall Not Be Named) only enhanced her character, and made us adore her more. Nevertheless, I was up to the challenge!
#10 – Lots of Germs
Shouldn’t Emma throw on a long-sleeved cardigan before entering into the Den of Germs? I digress. This look earns a spot in the top ten because it showcases Emma’s ability to make unconventional pieces look great together. Also, BOWS.
#9 – Ruffle-Front Dress
Up until “Hello” aired, we’d only seen Emma in a dress once – in “The Rhodes Not Taken.” I whined and moaned about that for months, and to my delight, more dresses appeared in the back 9. This fabulous piece from “The Power of Madonna” was a fan favorite from the moment Emma walked through that door.
#8 – The Football Game
Emma proves that you don’t have to look sloppy at a sporting event!
#7 – Taupe and Coral
No one does two colors and an incredible piece of jewelry better than Emma.
#6 – B.B. – Before Bambi
Speaking of jewelry, thank you Emma Pillsbury for bring back sweater clips! Worn this bright green cardigan over a crisp white blouse, what could be better?
#5 – Red and White at Sectionals
All of Emma’s signature pieces in one great look – a pencil skirt, a bow-tie blouse, a vintage cardigan, and her famous Mary Jane pumps. Wearing all of these at once gives a girl the kind of chutzpah one needs to tell off one’s competition.
#4 – Leaving WMHS
It seemed like a good idea until Will decided to run in slow-motion down the hallway, and then kiss her.
#3 – Shades of Yellow
Perhaps Emma’s most memorable look, this is the outfit that launched a fleet of shippers.
#2 – The Wedding Dress
Will’s garter-snapping reaction when Emma emerged from the dressing room in this stunning bridal gown was nothing compared to the viewers’ gasps and sighs. Sheer perfection.

#1 – “Ellen, that blouse is just insane.”
It’s impossible not to love a person who is willing to wear a blouse that sports not one, but TWO ginormous bows on the front. This is a person who unapologetically knows who they are. That’s our Emma.
Thanks so much to my good friends at Gleek Report for asking me to share my picks for Emma’s Top Ten looks from Season 1 with their readers. I’d love to hear what your favorites were!
