Glee Season 1 Spoilers

Last updated: May 13, 2010

SPOILER ALERT: This post contains spoilers about upcoming episodes, read at your own risk!

May 13, 2010: BroadwayWorld

Hollywoodnews.com recently spoke to GLEE creator Ryan Murphy: “Idina Menzel sings Funny Girl…”

April 15, 2010: Spoiler Roundup

The Ausiello Files reports that Terri and Finn will begin a friendship in the back 9 episodes that will carry into season 2. Finn gets a job at Sheets N Things, where Terri works. Since Terri sees Finn as a younger version of Will, she takes an interest in him and begins giving him moral advice. Creator Ryan Murphy liked the relationship so much that he’d like to continue it into season 2, but has no intentions of the relationship becoming a romantic one.

According to Entertainment Weekly’s Ausiello Files, the season finale of Glee (set to air June 8 ) will be the Regionals championship, and there will be three “celebrity” guest judges: Olivia Newton-John, Josh Groban, and Sue Sylvester. Sue Sylvester? A high school coach scheduled to judge a competition in which her high school is competing seems kind of outrageous, even if Sue wants to destroy New Directions, but I’m sure the writers will come up with some sort of justifiable reason.

E! Online’s Kristin Dos Santos reports that Ryan Murphy has confirmed an upcoming episode in which Will performs “Tell Me Something Good” by Chaka Khan in an attempt to seduce Sue Sylvester. Of course his motives are ulterior, but still – this should be disturbingly hilarious!

Some photos were released from the Paramount lot, which featured members of the cast decked out in some over-the-top costumes. We’re guessing that this comes from the Lady Gaga episode that features a tribute to theatricality. Enjoy!

Over at Zap2It, they’re speculating at a couple of Glee plot points, namely the new employment Puck and Finn seem to have gained (with supporting pictures), and a possible “Loser” song cover tweeted by Stephen Tobolowsky

Meanwhile, Entertainment Weekly has revealed that Glee will be covering Lady Gaga’s “Poker Face” and “Bad Romance” during their episode tribute to theatricality.

Puck’s Tragedy:

“It’s Glee tragic,” clarifies executive producer Brad Falchuk. “He’s not going to lose an arm. No family member will pass away. He will get some news that is very surprising that will have a very big effect on his life.”

March 10, 2010: Ask Ausiello

In the last month, Neil Patrick Harris has been confirmed to guest star on Glee. It has been revealed that he will play an old classmate rival of Matt Morrison’s character, Will Schuester, and is now a board member trying to cut the arts program. They filmed the episode this week (guest-directed by Joss Whedon). The two will battle through Aerosmith’s classic, “Dream On.” Phew!

All that’s left to do is watch the episode. Bring it on!

February 15, 2010: Ask Ausiello

In yet another triumph for the casting gurus over at Glee, sources confirm to me exclusively that SNL vet Molly Shannon is joining the ensemble as a nemesis to Jane Lynch’s Sue.

Wait, it gets better.

Her character, Brenda Castle, is described as the busty 45-year-old new astronomy teacher and badminton coach at McKinley High School who is both an alcoholic and a pill-popper.

January 21, 2010: Zap2It

But really? Easing her in? The way [co-creator, Brad] Falchuk describes Menzel’s first work on the show, that’s not what it sounds like: “She and Matt had an immediate chemistry. … Her first scene — literally it was ‘Welcome aboard,’ and they had a big makeout scene. So it was interesting for her. It was like, welcome to the show.”

January 20, 2010: E! Online

Lynch is going to be performing the dance classic “Vogue” in Glee’s highly anticipated all-Madonna episode.

“I’m going to be singing the song and doing a video for it,” Lynch told me at the Golden Globes. “It’s going to be so much fun!”

January 20, 2010: SpoilerTV

More immediately, when the show returns in April, Terri will be moving in with her sister and getting a new love interest now that Will (Matthew Morrison) has left her and is moving on with Emma (Jayma Mays), or, as Jessalyn calls her, “that redhead.”

January 19, 2010: Ask Ausiello

Neil Patrick Harris is nearing a deal to appear in the May sweeps Glee episode that’s being helmed by his Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog director, Joss Whedon.

The one possible snag — and there’s always one, isn’t there? CBS has to OK its MVP’s appearance on Fox’s breakout hit.

January 14, 2010: FOX

MenzelshotGLEE: Tony Award winner Idina Menzel is set to guest-star in a recurring role on GLEE as the coach of rival glee club “Vocal Adrenaline.”

GLEE returns with all-new episodes on a new night beginning Tuesday, April 13 (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX.

December 30, 2009: Broadway World

Says Murphy:”I’ve had a lot of calls from songwriters, to the point where it’s kind of embarrassing and ridiculous,” he says. “So we’re writing an episode called ‘Original Song’ where the teacher asks the kids to write their own piece of music. Diane Warren is going to do two big ballads, and if it works, we’ll see what happens . . . but we won’t do it all the time.”

Ryan Tedder of the band OneRepublic: “Adam Anders, the guy who does all the music, approached me about two weeks ago to do original music for the next season. So I’m gonna be doing at least one song for the next season that’s original.”

December 22, 2009: Ask Ausiello

Question: I’m dying to find out what song Jane Lynch will be singing on Glee (Ask Ausiello 12/16). Can I please have a hint?

Ausiello: You can have two: 1. Gene Kelly and 2. Fred Astaire.

December 20, 2009: Watch with Kristin

Did you have any idea fans would respond so strongly to Rachel and Puck’s brief fling?

No, I thought that was very strange and bizarre. I had no idea. I thought that people would not like them together. I thought people would root for her to be with Finn (Cory Monteith). But because people have weighed in, we have some plans to give the people what they want. There’s a lot of love stuff going on for [Rachel Berry] in the show in the next episodes: Jonathan [Groff]…Finn…Puck (Mark Salling).

On a related note, is Quinn (Dianna Agron) having the baby something you’d wrap up before the end of the season, or would that go on longer?

It’ll happen before the end of the season.

Does she go into labor as New Directions goes onstage to sing at regionals?

Everyone keeps asking me that, [but] probably not, because you’ve seen that before. We have to get rid of that baby and have her give birth some other way.

How many [Madonna] songs are you going to get?

We have 10 Madonna songs in that episode. Huge songs, huge production numbers. I’m really excited about that. I’m really excited about Kristin Chenoweth coming back. She is just a doll, and I love writing for her. And then we have a couple of really big top-secret guest stars who I really can’t say [who they are yet].

December 17, 2009: EW – Ask Ausiello

Ausiello: The phrase Best. News. Ever. gets used a lot around these parts, but this truly is the Best. News. Ever: Jane Lynch’s campaign to snag a musical moment on the show has ended in victory! “I have read the first two episodes [of the back-nine] and I can tell you that I will be singing and dancing,” Lynch reveals. “I can’t tell you what I’m singing because it’s top-secret.” Just a little hint? Teases Lynch: “It’s a very cold song.” We wouldn’t have it any other way!

December 16, 2009: Associated Press

“OK, listen. We had Kristin (Chenoweth, Menzel’s “Wicked” co-star), now Idina’s coming,” gushed actor Chris Colfer. “I can’t even fathom that. I can’t even talk about it. I am so, so excited.”

December 8, 2009: E! Online Spoiler Chat

If you’re hoping for a Glee minifinale full of lots of loose ends being wrapped up, then you’ve got it! Aside from Finn finding out, an inside source who asked to be called Clubber Lang tells me of this Wednesday’s ep: “It rocks. Very satisfying, all scores are settled, all secrets revealed. There are two show-stopping solos that will make the devil run home and call his mama.” And a source who asked to be called Cory Monteith (because that’s his name) tells us: “The plotlines you may have felt need resolution will be resolved. There is a lot of resolution in sectionals.”

December 7, 2009: E! Online Watch with Kristin

Episode 13, “Sectionals”: And when asked if Finn finds out Quinn’s huge secret, that Puck is actually the father of her baby, Cory answers: “Yes, he does.”

December 3, 2009: Chicago Tribune, The Watcher

Ryan: Just briefly, can I ask you [Joss Whedon] about directing “Glee” — when does that occur?

Whedon: That will happen let’s see, late February I’ll start prepping. I’ll shoot it in March.

Ryan: Do you have any say in picking songs?

Whedon: No, no. And you know what? I shouldn’t, because every time a song comes on I go, “Man, I would have never thought of that.” I haven’t spent much time around popular music. I tend to listen to the things I listen to. I grew up listening to show tunes and Neil Young and some other stuff. I think those guys are kind of genius at it and you know, this is not “Joss Whedon’s Glee.” I’m just a shot monkey.

December 2, 2009: LA Times

You’ve got a big, all- Madonna episode coming up next year?

[Lea Michele] I’m doing six Madonna songs, some of which will be mash-ups. We’re doing a lot of her most popular songs but ranging all the way from early Madonna to most recent Madonna. Amber [Riley] and Chris [Colfer, who play Mercedes and Kurt] are doing something really cool together, but I can’t give anything away.”

December 1, 2009: PopEater.com

Is there one song you’re dying to sing on the show?

I’m singing a Barbra Streisand song in a couple of weeks and that was my dream song and I got to do it. Also we’re getting to do Madonna which is really awesome. We’ve been really lucky to do so many great people.”

November 25, 2009: Twitter Spoilers

@GleekReport: “@tobolowsky Love The Tobo Files and your work on Glee, any idea when we’ll see Sandy again?”

@Tobolowsky (Stephen Tobolowsky, Sandy Ryerson on Glee): “@GleekReport The producers have said Sandy is coming back in the next group of shows which should start shooting in January, fingers crossed”

@GleekReport: “@hitchmichael excited for your appearance tonight, will you make any more appearances in the future??”

DM from Hitchmichael (Michael Hitchcock, guest-star in “Hairography”): “Yes I’ll also be on December 9th for “Sectionals.”. Hope you like it!”

November 18, 2009: EW – The Ausiello Files

Question: Got any Glee scoop? —Amanda

Ausiello: I do after running into Lea Michele at Monday’s New Moon premiere in Hollywood. Rachel’s portrayer told us that many of the baby-centric plots that have been building up will start to unravel as we head toward the mid-season finale on Dec. 9. Mr. Schuester’s pregnancy-faking wife will be found out, and Finn will discover he’s not the father of Quinn’s baby. And what up in Rachel-land? Look for a little tension between the spotlight-hugger and Mercedes. “They have been setting up a competitive thing between those two, and we deal with it,” said Michele. “Rachel can’t always get the best part.”

Question: Got any scoop on the Madonna-themed episode of Glee? —Jacob

Ausiello: Look for Rachel to sing five tunes by her Madgesty. And could a flesh-and-blood cameo be in the works? Maybe, since ”nothing has been filmed yet,” Michele said. “I am keeping my fingers crossed.” Um, exactly how many fingers does this girl have?

November 17, 2009: Watch With Kristin

“Amber Riley tells us: ‘We have a Christmas song coming out this year—we just recorded it. It took a very long to time to record because we were joking around in the studio, but it’s one of those older Christmas songs. We modernized it, but people are going to love it.’”

November 16, 2009: Watch With Kristin

[Episode 10, "Ballad"] Sarah told us, “I play a character named Suzy Pepper who has an insane, absurd, psychotic crush on Mr. Schuester. I don’t want to give too much away because it’s just hilarious, but she’s kind of stalker-ish and creepy.” Fans of Sarah’s previous work might see a resemblance to her Jaye-stalker character on Wonderfalls. “Yes, it’s very similar to the Wonderfalls character, actually, but that much better…She has something redeeming that happens at the end.”

November 8, 2009: The Press-Enterprise

In the “Wheels” episode, Lauren Potter [an actress with Down Syndrome] will play the part of Becky Jackson, a 16-year-old sophomore at McKinley High School who tries out for the cheerleading squad. She makes it, but conniving cheerleading coach Sue Sylvester, played by Jane Lynch, doesn’t make it easy for her.

November 5, 2009: PioneerLocal

“Finally, things end with a couple of secrets. The first is Sue’s, and it turns out she’s even more of a softie than was suggested when she was dating news anchor guy. There’s a big part of her life that’s revealed that really makes for a great moment on “Glee,” and explains her behavior when she’s forced to hold open tryouts for a new member of the Cheerios. It’s also another example — like the time Sue split off the minorities in the Glee club — of how the callous, very un-politically correct Sue sometimes is more on the right track than the sensitive Will. The last secret is one that’s uncovered by Artie, and doesn’t make him very happy.”

November 4, 2009: DVR Playground

“Thanks to Artie, Quinn will get a first-hand look at how how her baby Daddy Finn and wanna-be-daddy Puck deal with earning money. Sue Sylvester, the coach we love to hate will be forced by Principal Figgins to open up Cheerio’s tryouts to the entire school, culminating in a scene that we guarantee will have you in tears (although probably not for the reasons you might think). And best of all, we learn that Mr. Schuester’s wife Terri Schuester isn’t the only one hiding a big-time secret.”

November 2, 2009: E! Online – Watch with Kristin

Tina (Jenna Ushkowitz) has a dirty secret, and when she reveals it to Artie (Kevin McHale), he rejects her. Sniffle. Any guesses? (No, she’s not a man.)

October 27, 2009: E! Online – Exclusive with Mark Malkin

“If ya haven’t heard by now, producers decided to do an all-Madonna episode after Madge recently gave them permission to use any songs from her catalog…But before they get to Madge, McHale confirmed that the cast will hit the studio to record a cover ofWham!’s “Last Christmas,” which they’ll release as a single before, well, Christmas.”

October 26, 2009: E! Online – Watch With Kristin

Sorry, there isn’t any more Puck-Rachel stuff coming in the immediate future. The next ep of Glee, “Wheels,” airs Nov. 11, and by the end of it, your shipper allegiance might swing back from Puck-Rachel to Puck-Quinn. (I know, scandal!) Read More

And finally, Murphy also says that he’s planning on using the whole NBC/Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade snafu into an upcoming episode. Look for the glee club to get denied from having a float in the spring festival parade thanks to the villainous Sue Sylvester (Jane Lynch), standing in for NBC.

October 23, 2009: Billboard Feature Article

Though “Glee” has only featured covers until this point, Murphy plans to use some original music in the spring. “I’ve had a lot of calls from songwriters, to the point where it’s kind of embarrassing and ridiculous,” he says. “So we’re writing an episode called ‘Original Song’ where the teacher asks the kids to write their own piece of music. Diane Warren is going to do two big ballads, and if it works, we’ll see what happens . . . but we won’t do it all the time.”
